My journey of health and fitness began when I was around 18 years old. A friend and I joined the gym in our neighborhood. We were determined to get fit and in shape! Unfortunately, after so many months my friend started to miss our weekly sessions. However, I had a major focus and was very self-motivated and consistent so I continued going to the gym on my own. I really enjoyed exercising along with the results I was getting and the self confidence that came with it. To make it fun and challenging for myself, I would set little goals like how fast I could complete 2000m on the rowing machine, or record how long it would take me to do a 2-mile run on the treadmill and keep trying to beat that time. Also, I would do body weight exercises such as pushups and time myself to see how many I could do in 60 sec.
I was committed to making a lifestyle change and as such, I became extremely passionate about healthy living and exercise. I would read and explore health and fitness magazines and cut out newspaper articles about different healthy foods and their nutrient value and benefits. I would find myself giving health and fitness advice to family members and friends. In 2008, I made the decision to quit my job and pursue a career in health and fitness. I studied and achieved my Fitness Instructor certification. At that point, I got the chance to work at my local gym and also gain some experience working with the some of the young and mature athletes of the Birchfield Harriers track and field club in the UK where I am from, until I moved to the US in 2010.
I then achieved my National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Personal Trainer certification. I enjoy working with individuals of all ages and fitness levels. My goal is to educate clients on how to incorporate a balance of living a healthy lifestyle and training their bodies to function at optimum best in their daily lives.
In my own training, I enjoy a mix of Olympic weightlifting, functional and circuit training, running, rowing, core and flexibility work. I like a wide variety of activities as I believe they develop and condition the body fully. |
